Nominations for the IAU Awards for the Best PhD Theses/Scientific Projects

The IAU PhD Prize recognizes outstanding scientific achievements accomplished within a doctoral thesis.

Each IAU Division may annually award its own prize to a candidate whose thesis it considers the most significant, provided that the doctorate was successfully defended in the previous year. Theses conducted under particularly difficult conditions may also be recognized with the PhD Prize at-large.

Recipients of the PhD Prize will receive an official IAU certificate and will be invited to present their work, either remotely or in person, during the Division Days at the IAU General Assembly (GA) in 2027 in Rome, Italy.

The IAU will cover GA registration fees for the laureates. They will also have the opportunity to record a presentation of their work, which will be published on the IAU website and YouTube channel. Prize winners will be announced in an official IAU press release.
