Call for Nominations for IAU Honorary Membership
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) invites its National Members to submit nominations for IAU Honorary Membership. The nomination deadline is 28 February 2027.
IAU Honorary Membership recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of astronomical research and culture in their countries but are not professional astronomers and do not qualify for IAU Individual Membership. This distinction honours those whose dedication has helped advance astronomy and public engagement within their national communities.
Nomination procedure
Each IAU National Member may nominate one candidate per General Assembly cycle.
A complete nomination package must include:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the proposed candidate.
- Motivation Letter justifying the nomination, signed by the President of the National Committee for Astronomy or the primary National Member representative.
Complete nomination packages should be submitted to the IAU General Secretary, Prof. Diana Worrall, at iau-general.secretary@iap.fr by 28 February 2027.
Newly admitted Honorary Members will be officially announced at the XXXIII IAU General Assembly, taking place in Rome, Italy, on 10–19 August 2027.
