IAU survey on the future of conference proceedings

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is reviewing whether traditional proceedings from IAU Symposia and Focus Meetings still meet the needs of today’s astronomical community.

A dedicated Task Force has launched a survey for astronomers at all career stages. IAU membership is not required, and all responses are anonymous.

The results will help inform future decisions on whether conference proceedings should remain in their current form or be complemented or replaced by alternatives such as Zenodo collections or video archives.

The survey is open until 16 October 2026 and takes approximately 10–20 minutes to complete.
